KITS, continued Guided-Inquiry Kits
Available for Life Science, Earth and Space Science and Physical Science, each guided-inquiry kit encourages students to use reasoning skills, gather and analyze data, make observations and engage
in student-centered group activity. Students work collaboratively using critical-thinking skills to actively “construct” their knowledge on subject matter. Most kits include reproducible student handouts, detailed background information, complete Teacher Notes with answers to all questions and enough hands-on material for the class activity. Complete descriptions are at flinnsci.com
Enzyme Optimization—
pH and Temperature Guided-Inquiry Kit
The purpose of this inquiry-based lab is to analyze background information, develop a hypothesis and design and carry out an experiment to determine the optimum pH or temperature for an enzyme. Includes four digestive enzymes, along with buffers and test- ing solutions to test the progress or products of their respective digestion reactions. Students design individual experiments to find optimum condi- tions for a particular enzyme then compare results and draw general conclusions about the nature of enzymes and how they work.

Groundwater Simulation Model—Guided-Inquiry Kit
Investigate groundwater-related concepts while designing and building your own simu- lated groundwater model! In this inquiry-based activity, a list of groundwater-related features and specific materials are given to each student group. Students then design and carry out a procedure to create these features and test their own simulated ground- water models that include aquifers, restrictive barriers, pollution sources and aerated and saturated zones.

Let students design their own controlled experiments and discover the factors that affect the rate of enzyme reactions. This activity meets many of the higher level skills outlined in the National Science Standards.
The laboratory investigations in this kit allow students to conduct experiments of their own design while studying the chemical reactions of a key cell enzyme, catalase. The unique “floating-disk” assay system will provide a new and
fun alternative for your students as they study enzyme kinetics.

Seed Germination and Moisture—
Guided-Inquiry Kit
Students use a variety of “liquids” on radish seeds to determine their impact on germination. The results will surprise students on how sensitive seeds can be to their surroundings. Teacher Notes, reproducible student handouts and all necessary chemicals and specialized equipment are provided.
