Molecules have fascinating shapes and patterns! The structure and shape of a molecule influence its physical properties and affect its chemical properties as well. Lewis structures and VSEPR theory offer useful models for picturing the structures of covalent compounds.
Students practice drawing Lewis structures of specific molecules, and use these structures to predict their molecular geometry. Students then examine the constructed 11 molecular models to visualize the shapes of molecules and sketch their three-dimensional structures.
Words and pictures on a printed page are no substitute for models that students can hold in their hands, rotate, turn upside down and even take apart and put back together. Students develop spatial reasoning skills required for success in chemistry as they discover how atoms join together to make molecules. Includes all the parts needed to assemble all eleven structures shown in the photo along with reproducible student handouts, detailed background information and Teacher Notes with sample data and answers to all questions.
Materials included in kit:
Set of molecular models labeled A–K (must be assembled)
